Biography:
Jin-Won Song, M.D., Ph.D., is Professor of Microbiology at Korea University College of Medicine. His research specialises in the molecular epidemiology and genomic characterisation of zoonotic viruses, including hantaviruses, paramyxoviruses, and coronaviruses. He has led national studies on pathogen discovery and virus surveillance in the Republic of Korea. In this presentation, he reports on the genomic diversity and geographic distribution of Muju virus, a genotype of Orthohantavirus puumalaense harboured by Craseomys regulus, based on serological screening, RT-PCR, and amplicon-based nanopore sequencing of field samples collected from 2012 to 2023.
