Title : Problems in human rabies post-exposure prophylaxis management
Abstract:
Despite the availability of effective vaccines and immunoglobulins, rabies still remains a problem in many parts of the world.. It also poses a problem for those who go to risky areas. More than 50,000 people die from rabies every year. More than 50,000 people die from rabies every year, but we know that these deaths are preventable. For this reason, the World Health Organization and many countries have prepared rabies prophylaxis guidelines. Despite the guides, there are problems in daily practice and some questions cannot be answered. In this study, the problems experienced in decision-making in centres regarding rabies prophylaxis were investigated.
Material and Method: In this study, questions received from physicians in rabies prophylaxis application centres and consulted by national guideline participants in last two years were evaluated. Questions asked directly to the person or referred to by name. All he questions were tried to be answered in the light of existing guides
Findings: More than 120 questions received over the two-year period. The most frequently asked questions that are difficult to answer are shown in the table.
Result: Although there are well-established guidelines on rabies prophylaxis, some evidence-based data are insufficient and need clarification.
